In 2021, Travelers Haven underwent a comprehensive rebranding to modernize its visual identity and appeal to a broader customer base. As part of this effort, the company’s portal also required a significant update to align with the new brand standards. The rebranding process for the portal was executed in two phases. The first phase, completed in 2021, focused on updating the color palette and typography to reflect the new brand guidelines. The second phase, launched in 2022, involved a complete overhaul of the portal, including migrating the codebase from Angular to React JS and improving user flows to enhance usability and efficiency.
As the UI/UX Designer on this project, I played a key role in ensuring the portal’s design aligned with the rebrand while addressing user needs. The project spanned from 2021 to 2022, culminating in a modernized portal that better served both internal and external users.
UX/UI Design
User Research
The first step in the portal redesign was the creation of a component library built on the Ant Design UI framework. This library served as the foundation for the entire project, ensuring design consistency and scalability across the platform. By establishing a robust set of reusable components, we streamlined the development process and maintained a cohesive visual language throughout the portal. This approach not only improved efficiency but also allowed the team to focus on refining user flows and addressing specific pain points without compromising design integrity.
With the component library in place, the next step was to evaluate the existing portal pages. We conducted a thorough audit to determine which pages were still relevant and which could be deprecated.
For the pages that remained, we analyzed their user flows and categorized them into two groups: those that would retain their current flow and those that required updates to improve usability. While the development team focused on implementing the pages with unchanged flows, I collaborated closely with the Product Manager to redesign the pages that needed improvement. This involved rethinking navigation, simplifying complex processes, and ensuring that each page aligned with the new brand standards and user expectations.
The rebranding and redesign of the Travelers Haven portal yielded significant results. The updated portal now features a modern, cohesive look and feel that aligns with the company’s new brand identity. More importantly, the improved user flows and updated UI components have enhanced the overall user experience, making the portal more intuitive and efficient for both internal and external users. The project successfully achieved its goal of creating a platform that not only looks contemporary but also meets the evolving needs of its users. Additionally, the new design standards established during this project have provided a solid foundation for future updates and iterations.
This project was a substantial undertaking, and while I’m proud of the results, I believe it could have benefited from a more extended timeline. Given the complexity of the portal and the scope of the changes, dedicating a few additional quarters to refine user flows and conduct more in-depth user testing would have allowed us to address even more pain points upfront. That said, the project was a valuable learning experience, and we were able to revisit many of the pages post-launch based on user feedback. These iterative improvements have ensured that the portal continues to evolve and meet user needs effectively. Overall, this project reinforced the importance of balancing design aesthetics with functionality and the value of continuous improvement in UX design.
